Millennial's Guide To Parenthood Workshop

Hello mommies!

I attended a parenting workshop last week , 'Millennial's Guide to Parenthood' which actually came at the right time as I am struggling a bit in terms of Eidruce's eating habit and also about common diseases among children. This workshop is a collaboration between Parenthood Magazine, Nippon Paint and Sunway Medical Centre which is organized to tackle 4 hot topics.

HOW TO MANAGE THE 5 MOST COMMON ILLNESSES
Speaker : Consultant Paediatrician,  Dr. Cham Weng Tang
The 5 most common illness include ; common cold, HFMD (hand, foot, mouth disease), Influenza, Diarrhoea and Dengue. As a parent, we always worried about our children's health and when they fall sick, it is heartbreaking and worrying to see them in that situation. We should know the causes, the effect and also what we can do to avoid them from getting sick. We should also take precautions of our surroundings, outdoor and even indoor as the walls in our home can easily transmit harmful bacterias and viruses.

HOW TO HANDLE PICKY EATERS & WHAT PARENTS CAN DO
Speaker : Dietician Celeste Lau

This is actually what I came here for because Eidruce is a picky eater. Here's how to recognize whether your child is a picky eater or a problem eater.

There's a lot of input I gained in this workshop, especially not to 'threaten' my kids to eat (if they don't then they can't watch TV or have desserts) as this will trigger their anger that will lead to tantrums. Read the slide below to understand our parental roles and what we can do to make meal time easier for the family.

INDOOR AIR WELLNESS
Speaker : President of Malaysian Wellness Society, Dato' Dr Rajbans Singh

Did you know that indoor air pollution is 2 to 5 times worse than outdoors? It's worrying think that we can get sick by staying indoor! Dr. Rajbans shared some steps on how to improve indoor wellness, and as for my family, using air purifier is a really great effort to keep indoor air at its best. Using pain from Nippon Paint from the Children Wellness range is also a great option to keep in mind!

HOW TO BRING OUT THE BEST POTENTIAL IN YOUR CHILD
Speaker : Clinical Psychologist, Ms. Sam Jeng Mun
During this session, parents took an assessment to determine their parenting style. There are 4 types of parenting styles and how each of these styles may affect their child mentally. As parents, we always want the best for our children, but at the same time we are still human and we also make mistakes along the way. What we can do in order to raise our children is to gain parenting knowledge as much as we can and learn how to understand our kids better.

The workshop also hosted the prize-giving ceremony of Nippon Paint Wellness Colouring Contest where 6500 students from 56 schools around KL and Selangor took part in the contest. It is a part of Nippon Paint Malaysia initiative to educate pre-school children on on the benefits of staying healthy and importance of wellness. The colouring contest was divided into Category 1 (aged 3-4) and Category 2 (aged 5-6). All 200 nominees were given a Mini Picasso Appreciation Plaque and a Wellness Blobby to bring home. 26 students were shortlisted to be in the running of the grand prize of a 2 day 1 night stay in Legoland Malaysia and a School-Makeover- Painting Package worth RM3000!

Category 2 (aged 5-6yo)
Category 1 (aged 3-4)

I am glad that I attended this parenting workshop as I have more input to tackle Eidruce's eating habits. Wish me luck!
