Baby Food Recipes - 6 Months Menu

Creating new recipes for Eidruce is one of my favourite things to do as a mom. I have been enjoying cooking so much since I got married and even much so after becoming a mother. I just realized that I didn't blog much about Marissa's food journey, I only blogged about her first solid food which comprises of single purees. So I decided this time around, I will try to share more baby recipes for my readers, especially to first time mother.

It is important to understand your baby needs and be observant of his growth. Babies can start their solid from between 4-6 months and for Eidruce, I started his food journey at his age of 5 month plus. At first I wanted to start his solid at 6 months but there were signs why I decided to do so earlier :
🍃 He able to lie on his tummy and control his head
🍃 He can sit upright (but with help of course even though sometimes he will slowly tilt at the side)
🍃 His weight is almost triple from his birth's weight (the standard is double in weight)
🍃 He seems interested when he see us eating and opens his mouth when we pretend to feed him

How much can Eidruce eats? Honestly he can eat up to 4-5 tablespoons (around 2-3oz) per feeding and I feed him 2 times a day. But there are some days when he wakes up early and I will feed him breakfast. As he is going to be 7 months old in just 6 days, he already tried out many types of food and vegetables. It is important to give single type of food when first starting solid to avoid any allergies. It is recommended to use the 4 days rule to test out because you have to take into consideration if your family has any food allergies. But I only use 2 or 3 days rule as my family and my in-laws (as well us both parents) don't have food allergies. And also I keep a food log when trying out new food so that I know what are the effects of some food towards Eidruce's digestion and what he likes in terms of taste.

This is a simple food log using iPhone's note just to write down Eidruce's reaction on food so that I can avoid the food that cause him constipation, food he likes and so on. As I mentioned earlier, Eidruce eats 2 times a day but there are some days he eats 3 times if he wakes up early than usual.

This is what I plan for his menu everyday :
Breakfast (Occasional) : Single puree (Fruits or vegetables)
Lunch : Rice grains + 1 vegetable + 1 fruit OR Rice grains + 2 Vegetables
Dinner : 1 vegetable + 1 fruit

For this post, I want to share some of Eidruce's current favourite food. Here's the menu :

For breakfast, you can check out THIS BLOGPOST for single puree recipes and how I cook them. Eidruce loves Avocado, so whenever I buy Avocado, I will make this avocado puree for his breakfast:

BREAKFAST : Avocado Puree
*Makes 1 portion of 2-3oz

1/2 ripe Avocado (mash with fork)
1 spoon of formula milk powder
Hot water

Mix all ingredients until you get smooth consistency.

LUNCH : Rice Porridge with Broccoli and Carrot
*Makes 6 portions of 2-3oz

1/4 cups of white rice grains (I use Little Baby Grain Natural White Rice)
1 1/2 cups of water
 3 florets of broccoli
1/2 a carrot (diced) - I like to boil the carrot separately for 5-7 minutes then add into the porridge at the end

1st : Cook the rice grains for 15 minutes (you can boil the carrots in a different pot at the same time to save time)
2nd : Add in broccoli and cook for 5 minutes
3rd : Add in carrots and cook for about 5-10 minutes.
4th : Once rice grains is fully cooked and has the consistency of rice porridge, remove pot from stove.

5th : Let the porridge cool down for a little bit and blend into puree consistency. You can add hot water into the blender if you want thinner consistency.

DINNER : Sweet potato and Apple
*Makes 3 portions of 2-3oz

1 medium-sized sweet potato (cut into smaller pieces)
Water
2 small apples (I use Royal Gala)

1st : Boil sweet potato with water (just enough to cover the sweet potato) for 10 minutes, then add in apples
2nd : Steam boil the sweet potato and apples for 10-15 minutes
3rd : Remove the pot from stove once the sweet potato is fork-tender.

4th : Let the sweet potato and apple cool down for a little bit then blend to puree consistency. You may add water into the blender if you want thinner consistency.

I gotta say, I am really enjoying myself cooking and creating baby food. I try my best to make his food fresh daily but I find it a bit difficult sometimes to do that and that's why I also freeze his food so I can reheat it whenever. Having two kids is really challenging and I find freezing his food save my time a lot. I might share about how I freeze baby food in my future post. And also I will be sharing more daily menu because next month I'll be adding chicken, tofu and turkey in his diet. Stay tuned for that. :)

**Disclaimer : I am not a professional nor a specialist, I am just sharing about what I love and dislikes, what my kids enjoys and what I experienced as a mother. Our opinions might not be on the same level, but remember being a parent means putting our child first. Every body has their own way of parenting so please keep the positive vibes coming in, I really appreciate that. :) And to new mommies-to-be, maybe you can read my experience as your guidance or additional knowledge. :)

Thanks for reading!
