Koenigii Nasi Kandar At Nadayu 28, Bandar Sunway

I had my first ever Nasi Lemak 'Alor Setar' style when I went to Alor Setar, Kedah way back in 2010. If you haven't tasted this northern style Nasi Lemak before, you might get confused because it is actually Nasi Kandar style! If you are nearby Bandar Sunway area, I highly suggest for you to swing by Koenigii to get your Nasi Kandar fix! Koenigii is a modern curry house originated from Alor Setar which is famously known as Nasi Lemak Ong. Nasi Lemak Ong has been in the business for over 2 decades and now it's time to bring this awesome food experience to KL! Koenigii is operated by the Ong brothers, sons of Nasi Lemak Ong with a promise to bring authentic taste and quality food.  The one fact that you should know about Koenigii and Nasi Lemak Ong is that, they do not use coconut milk in their curries. Therefore this is definitely a healthier option! There are 30 different types of curries and these curries are done the Alor-Setar style, with the influence of Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking.  Enough talking, lets get to the food now, shall we? ;)

There are 4 steps to enjoy your Nasi Kandar and firstly, you have to choose your rice. You can choose either a white rice or yellow rice (contains coconut milk). If you are a first timer, I suggest for you to try out the yellow rice as the lovely spice fragrant will increase your appetite even more. *hehe* Then you can choose your sides, your 'lauk and sayur'  and also ulam and the spicy sambal belacan! Koenigii signature dishes include Sweet & Spicy Anchovies, Curry Mutton, Curry Cuttlefish, Ulam, Fried Catfish, Curry Squid and Petai & Bamboo Shoot. The 3rd step is to choose your gravy, the yummy curries depending on the level of heat that you prefer! There are 5 levels ; Mild, Standard, Medium, Hot and Champion. Take your pick! Finally wash down your food with thirst quenching beverages! :D

Eggs, salted eggs, fried fish and fried calamari
Curries with 5 level of heat ; Mild, Standard, Medium, Hot and Champion. Inform the staff which level you prefer, they will mix it up for you!
My husband's plate : Yellow rice, curry tiger prawn, honey chicken, curry squid and sweet & spicy anchovies.
My plate : Yellow rice, fried catfish, fried calamari, sweet & spicy anchovies, salted egg and cabbage
Curry beef
Ulam and sambal belacan
I kid you not, this plate of food is simply divine. I do suggest for you to come here with an empty stomach because you are going to be so full! The fried catfish has a crispy skin but the flesh is indeed soft. The curry beef is so tender and the flavour is on point. The sweet and spicy anchovies is new to me and it actually tastes really good! And the combination of curries on the rice is perfect to my heat tolerance. My husband loves the curry squid, like seriously he loves it he couldn't stop talking about it. *lol*. The sambal belacan is really spicy (my heat level is mediocre) so please take note okay? ;)

Calamansi and Sunquick Ice Blended
Lemon Mint Ice Blended
All these 3 ice blended drinks are so refreshing! I personally love the Calamansi Ice Blended because of the sourness but the Lemon Mint is just as good as well. My husband and Marissa shared the Sunquick Ice Blended, they do enjoyed it very much.

Menu and pricing of Nasi Kandar

Besides Nasi Kandar, Koenigii also serves Roti (roti canai, roti planta, roti telur, etc) and Wok fried food such as Nasi Goreng and Mee Goreng.

What I love about this restaurant is how spacious the place is, the perfect place for family outings. And the best part is that, the smell of the curries and food won't stick to your clothes which is always a gooooood thing! *no more mamak smell on your baju* :P

Love the deco in this area!
Great outdoor spot

Do come over to Koenigii and experience the food for yourself. Koenigii uses halal-certified ingredients (as told by the owner personally to me) so makanlah tanpa was-was okay? ;)
