RECIPE | Sugared Doughnuts

Assalamualaikum and hello love. I was craving for the simple sugared doughnuts (or I would just call it donat melayu in Bahasa) over the weekend  so I decided to make it for our buka puasa on Sunday night. I love doughnuts, have been a doughnut lover since I was small to the extend some of my family members calls me by the name 'Donut' when I was growing up. I used to be so obsessed with Dunkin' Donut's Chocolate Peanut, the cinnamon doughnut and the one with the strawberry filling. Then my interest went to to Jco for it's almond toppings doughnut  But, nowadays, I gravitate towards the simple doughnuts  like the original ones  sold by the road side which is covered in sugar. And I also enjoy Krispy Kreme's Glazed doughnut. That's all, I just need them for my sugar fix. *hahaha* such a precise elaboration about my doughnut obsession! *lol* Anyway, some of you were asking about the recipe so I thought I would just share the recipe in my blog. I actually got the recipe from a Bahasa website, Resepi Bonda. Check it out as they have quite a number of Malay Kuih-Muih ideas. But I'm just gonna write the recipe anyway for you guys.

INGREDIENTS :

(A)
1/4 cup of warm water
2 tsps of instant yeast (I used Mauripan)
1 tsp of sugar

(B)
3 cups of all purpose flour
4 tbsps of castor sugar
1/2 tsp of salt
2 tbsps of margerine or butter
1 egg
1/4 - 1/2 cup of water

(C)
Castor sugar for coating

HOW TO :

1. Mix ingredients A to activate the yeast. Set aside for 5 minutes until mixture starts to foam.
2. Mix ingredients B in a large bowl and pour in the yeast mixture. Pour in the water bit by bit, depending on your dough consistency. You want your dough to be non-sticky and smooth.
3. Cover the dough with kitchen towel. Leave the dough about 45 minutes to one hour or until it has doubled in size.
4. After it has doubled, punch the dough to kick out the air from the dough. Roll out the dough and start cutting into a doughnut shape using a donut cutter.
5. Set aside for 20 minutes to let it rise once again before frying.
6. Heat up your pan with cooking oil. Make sure you set your stove with a medium small setting.
7. Fry your doughnut,  flip them constantly so they won't get burned easily (mine was a bit black because I don't know that I was supposed to flip the donuts constantly).

8. Fry them until golden brown and remove from heat.
9. Tossed in castor sugar and you are done. Do it while it's hot so the sugar will stick to the doughnuts.

Tadaaaaa! Easy home made doughnuts ! It is so lembut and so gebu inside and crispy at the outside. This is my first time doing it and I am pretty impressed with myself! *lol perasan* :P Nothing beats home made kuih kan? :) Don't mind the 'extra brown' looking donuts, I am still learning how to adjust the oil temperature. :P Next I want to try make churros (that's what I'm thinking about, but I might change my mind in a split second! :P )

Thanks for reading guys, I hope you will try out this recipe! What recipe do you want next? ;)

Till then,
